ヒューベリオン Hyperion
The most famous vessel of the Free Planets Alliance around 796 Space Calendar (487 Imperial Calendar), she was the flagship of Yang Wen-Li through most of his service as an admiral in the FPA space fleet. It was also the flagship of the 13th fleet, which was originally comprised of survivors from past battles and new blood fresh from training.

Hyperion is an older model command warship, previously the 3rd Remote Region flagship before it's reassignment to the 13th fleet. Inferior to the newer line of command cruisers (Patriclous type) with only 80% of the forward firepower, she also only carries 24 spartianarian one-man fighters.

The Hyperion would eventually come under the command of Willibald Joachim von Merkatz, while Yang transferred his flag to the lucky Battleship Ulysses. Eventually Hyperion took a critical hit, killing Merkatz, though it is not sure if the Hyperion was completely destroyed, or only crippled beyond repair. Regardless, her grave is just within the Alliance side of the Iserlohn corridor.

ブリュンヒルト Brunhild
Brunhild was an experimental design with a high emphasis on defense. It's structure, combined with additional defense screens, theoretically gave it a high survivability rate. It's many brushes in combat (given the mentality of her commander, Reinhard von Lohengramm), are testament to the survival power of the battleship.

As an experimental design, Brunhild was considered for mass production, but her costs went beyond ten times that of the original estimate. Nevertheless, copies are said to exist. When she was delivered to Reinhard's command, her trials had already been completed. It is thought that Reinhard was allowed command of the Brunhild because it's over-reliance on defense was not desired by Imperial commanders.

Brunhild would survive the duration of the entire series, first appearing at the battle of Legmiza and conveying Reinhard to Phezzan at its end.

My first work since finishing college. It's not much- just touching up two already-existing drawings, but it feels good to be doing something nonetheless.

I do redesigns because it allows me some latitude for creativity while also meaning no worry on getting the designs stolen by others. I'm looking to pad my portfolio with other works, so I'm hoping potential employees won't mind fan-art as an example of my talents.

Somehow, I like the Hyperion more than the Brunhild.

How big are these ships?

If I'm reading one of my sources right, the Hyperion is 911 meters long, while the Brunhild is 1007 meters.

All I know for certain on these ships is that the Hyperion is 911 meters long and the Brunhilde is 1007 meters long.

By the way, I'm writing a FPA-centered fic centered on Yang receiving the message to stand down at Vermillion a few seconds too late, winning the Battle of Vermillion.

Eventually, I'm also going to write about Siegfried Kircheis barely surviving the wounds he received by saving Reinhard. ^^

Good luck with that! I couldn't ever get a LoGH fic idea off the ground because there's so many consequences to consider, and I want to do the story justice through my writing.

Actually that last part is the reason in general why I don't write ff so much anymore... too critical of myself :\

Unfortunately there's not a lot of information in English available on the background of the ships. Further, not everything about them is stated in the series. The books were never translated into english, so the best one can do is use bablefish and visit information sites.

My ';primary' site that I used has since gone defunct (it was on Yahoo), but I could also find information here: [link]

Using Bablefish for the translations means you have to distill the information from what is essentially babble, but this is the only way to find the unseen facts.

Well, as long as you don't overdo the exclamations :)

Someday I want to get my real website up and running... it's not satisfactory at the moment, but I'll keep posting art here too. I have much to thank DA for. :)

As long as they don't steal my artwork :\
