Description

With the appearance of higher-quality axels appearing in pirate and privateer hands, the UEPC was forced for the first time to consider this threat to its global security. As the current administration was focusing on their attempts to conquer the moon, they were loathe to allocate new resources to the problem and instead elected to mobilize more Kelleg units with heavier machines as support. The appearance of the P7 model of the Kelleg caused some alarm in the UEPC, and with the 14A models overwhelmed it was proposed to dispatch the KR-19 squadrons to stop them. Inevitably the consideration of combat losses was raised, but dismissed in the early months of their foreign deployment (from Europe) as it was presumed the -19 model was superior to anything the pirates could field.

The first battle between the P7 models and KR-19s was not really remarkable, but it did point out the fact that the Kr-19s would inevitably take losses. The KR-19 model had been out of production for nearly twenty years, and since the factories were long re-tooled for other models, there would be no way to replace units destroyed. It was decided to revert the original factories to produce more KR-19s.

Unfortunately the plans had to be re-created from scratch. Not only had the factories been changed, but copies of complete plans were destroyed to prevent being stolen and replicated by any potential pirate companies. The plans had to be re-created, and during the lead-up to production it was decided to revise the plans to catch up with the times. The result was the -19B.

The KR-19B had over 1,400 changes from the original KR-19A model. Among the changes, new arms were designed, the armor composition was changed, several 'exposure points' were closed with anti-ballistics covers, and new balance system was developed. The fingers were given the same fabrics covering the P7 model had, and a new head unit was developed (inspired by the Japanese KR-14A+ permutation), and the power plant was traded out for a more powerful version. Remarkably, the unit did not incorporate the ballistics jackets for the hip connections as other models had. It was thought that the developers behind the -19B were too proud to admit that a pirate development was superior to an in-house production.

The -19B has yet to see field service, as most of the -19A models are still seeing service in the field. One group of -19B pre-production models was unintentionally sent into combat when a group of 97S Liques were sea-inserted into Greece to attack one of the development plants. The 19Bs were said not to have taken casualties, giving credence to the potential of the new design.

Decided to polish up another piece for my portfolio, went with the KR-19.
