MN-18 Ikida by Norsehound MN-18 Ikida by Norsehound
The UEPC's primer Space Axel... designed specifically for low-orbit and microgravity conflict. The split arms allow it to carry the heavy lasers which come as standard armament. Though it approaches the moon's OU-8, that Axel's armor is still superior to that of the UEPC's axel.

'Been thinking about a novella for NaNo involving Axels and the ARX series together, so that's why there've been a few Axels of late. Almost like Cupps Island I guess, since I've been fleshing out that time period's respective machines.

the lower half is really sensual, looks so wrong and right at the same time. I love it!

All the zero-g axels are really weird. The LUNAR designs are only half weird because they aren't in complete zero-g...

Thanks Kai :)

I like this one a lot. It would also go well design-wise in a Space:1999 series continuation.

Great design!

Very cool silhouette to this guy. I dig the upper leg armor shapes and (what I'm guessing are) thruster ports.

Yeah those are thruster ports. Axels don't typically have on-board armaments, but there are exceptions.

Gotcha, I figured they were. Very cool, the use of simple shapes along with the white paint really lets those darker accents pop and accentuate the sculpt. It does, indeed, give it an almost NASA-esque space vibe.

In the Ikida's case I wanted to channel some of the vibes from the 2001 space pod as well. That's where the split arms come in... though I think I need to edit this image to give it wrists...

Actually, yeah, now that you note that you indeed did. I should have caught that too seeing as how I got 2001 on Blu-ray a month back but I suppose that still goes with the NASA vibe regardless. 2001 vibes are totally ace in my book though. My thanks for the return watch by the way ;)

More than just the split arms being awesome I love how they stow when not in use, it both practical and aesthetically pleasing.

I can see it crouching and leaping insane distances in microgravity, those 'thunder thighs' with their thrusters allowing it to adjust its trajectory to cover large amount of ground/space quickly.

This is a cool design, I like the split arms.

My problem with it is that if you drew a horizontal line through its waist, cutting it in two pieces, it looks like the top half and the bottom half came from two totally different mechs.

I'd love to see the upper half of this design with a redesigned lower half which matches its style better.

I know this would not fit in with your normal style so well, but I think it would be a cool to see.

i really like the tiny spherical head for some reason!

I dunno. I know these are supposed to be for space and low gravity environments, but I just can't help but think it looks horribly unbalanced. Besides, it doesn't look like it could take much punishment at all, unless they hit it in it's thunder thighs...

I like that it's unique, but it just doesn't sit right.
