Since I can't seem to get blocky mobile suits to look good, might as well do the ones that shouldn't look blocky. Exercise in art... since I'm getting over a nasty stress-induced head cold thanks to summer school.
Done partially as a response to 's own Zaku II. I didn't think his rendition was menacing enough: [link]
Okawara must be stopped. Although he is credited for creating the legendary Gundam and other early mobile suits, his designs for Gundam since have been monotonous and boring. If Katoki can't take the spotlight as Gundam's main designer, then room must be made for truely outrageous mind-breaking designs...such as this.
I have to ask: are the shoulders in line vertically with the hips, or are they set back? It looks a little like it could go either way, and the difference between the two would make a big change in the unit's balance...
I like the aesthetics of this Zaku redesign, and already see a few touches I'd put on it as an armor kit if I were to pilot one, but I really like the way it looks. This unit truely communicates "grunt" while looking quite menacing. The very boxy arms had to be there, even though they never look right to me. I'd really like to see it in multiple angles to get a better view, though not nearly as much as I'd like to see my very own parked outside my window.
It's almost too-bad some gundam is just going to maul it.
