RF-72 Ikaja by Norsehound RF-72 Ikaja by Norsehound
When the colony ships left for the Jovian system, a point was made to leave behind the technology to construct Axels. This gesture of peace, it was said, would leave behind the generation of bloodshed that preceeded the fall of the United Earth Peace Corps and the bloody agitator wars. This lasted up until Callisto declaring itself capital of the Jovian moons.

The Ikaja was built covertly by the Roma Forgers corporation based on Elara. Disguised as another commercial work pod, the combat axel made its debut in the Incident of Duh crater where the machines attacked and destroyed a financial control center. Within a year the combat units were routinely destroying law enforcement vehicles and a new age of Axel combat had begun in the orbit of Jupiter.

Being seperated by a generation from past Axel lines and in a totally new environment, the Ikaja is different from its LUNAR and UEPC progenitors in a number of ways. Sub-arm support for bulky Zero-G weapons were better integrated into this design than yesteryear's MN-18V series, and the elongated limbs were designed to help turning. The Ikaja is also slightly larger than the predecessor standard machines of the KR-14 series and the last OU series. Finally the armor system was designed completely with new alloys discovered in the Jovian system. Summanum is lighter and more brittle than the legendary Lunar Titanium, but it is easier to manufacture and has greater resistance to cosmic radiation with a thickness exceeding five centimeters.

I need to get back to this. The Axel series is uniquely mine and I'm proud of the lineage I've built over the years. No promises that this Jupiter cycle will go anywhere, but I'm opening the door to the next generation of Axel combat.

Late to this one, but cool design and good background.  Glad to see the Axel line continue!

Hell. Yes.

I love this concept, and you are fully entitled to feel pride for it. The fact that the I share the name with the iconic mechs is coincidental, I swear. :D
