Somtaaw Frigate Lineup by Norsehound Somtaaw Frigate Lineup by Norsehound
For Cataclysm 2nd.

I was never satisfied with the Frigate selection in the Cataclysm game. Lacking at best, insulting at worst, the frigates for the Somtaaw side were made of pure gimmick and no substance. I absolutely hated the voice acting for the multibeam frigate, also.

Replacing them would be these frigates. Not all the conceptual designs are shown.

Top to bottom:
Assault frigate
Torpedo Frigate
Ion Cannon Frigate
Laser Frigate
Command Frigate

After your projects I seem to finaly find down a good base for ships for my universe. I like that shape - the last one seems most 'human'.

I wish for a mod for H2, based on these ideas.

I didn't care much for Foss color schemes when I was younger, but I've warmed to them with age :) Of course sitting onto of your neat designs is a plus too!!!

Foss was one of the inspirations for Homeworld, which in turn inspires me.

While I agree the selection in ships for the Somtaaw wasn't very good, I have to admit the Hive Frigate was one of the better ones I've seen. Better than some of the ones in the original. But to each his own. I like your ideas, though. What's the Command Frigate do? I see the point in the others, but...what about the last one? Curiosity abound.

The Command frigate was to be used for command + Control and airwatch functions. Basically it would be the eyes and ears for a resource harvesting operation when a carrier or the mothership couldn't be in the area. It would also be the place where the officer in charge of the defenders would be to issue orders to fighters and other assets.

Gameplay-wise, it would probably have a very large sensor radius and a discount on accuracy to all friendly weapons being fired within it.

And here I was doubting I'd get a response. You just made my day, honestly, because that is the best thing I've heard so far today. Maybe it's the fact I'm tired, but I'll give this another read when I'm more awake, and we'll see how much better it gets, eh?

Anyway, you did good on the ships, no doubt. But why stop at the frigates? Why not go up to either the capital-class ships, or down to the corvettes and fighters where the fun really is? :P

There are other examples of these 'Taiidan Somtaaw' in my gallery. They are the product of a sort of art project to create an alternative vision of Homeworld: Cataclysm.

In accordance with that vision I avoided giving the Somtaaw very large ship chassis because I felt, as a fringe Kiith without access to heavy industry, they would not be producing such hulls. The largest combat craft they would ever field would be a destroyer.

These all look just... AWESOME!!! Really! Blew my mind!

Just one thing: The Somtaaw are a mining kiith. Not only that but they barely have any influence in the hiigaran politics (specialy in before fighting the Beast, and even after that they weren't very well rewarded or given any real important position in Hiigara...) so much that kiith Nabaal wanted to assimilate them, and so much tht they barely were able to build two capital ships (The Kuun-Lan and The Fal-Corum (Correct me, if mistaken, not sure!)) so:

Why would they have Assault frigates and command ships Prepared for full-out war. That's why they look so weak in-game: thir mining ships whoe designs were retrofited to support weapons: They are not warships.

But these Are Really cool, and don't take me wrong... I was just saying...

Will be watching your works!...

For a mere mining Kiith, their super capital design easily beats those in national fleets with supposedly greater funding. At least my rendition puts the realistic cap of "Light cruiser"on how high the Somtaaw fleet would go. No Mary-suing here.

Or is this part of your HW canon universe?
Cus' I just noticed you also left out the hive frigate...

Again, don't take this the wrong way... It just seems weird to imagine somtaaw buildind warships...
