The Road to Kessel by Norsehound The Road to Kessel by Norsehound
Got into FFG's X-Wing game in a big way. So much so that now I have twenty ships! And ambitions to run events with custom rules! And make posters about them!

What numbers do you have for the actual fighters?

Sense the Star Wars Universe's 'Squadrons' was based on twelves.

A ImpStar for example having one Wing of fighters which translates out to 72 fighters. 6 Squadrons; usually the make up of an ImpStars Fighter Wing would be 3 Squadrons of TIE/Ln, 2 Squadron of TIE/In, and 1 Squadron of TIE/Sa.

The rebels would field Squadrons in twelves as well. however they would be better off in their fighters due to the shields that all Rebel Alliance fighters used.

I just had this discussion on the Boardgame geek forums. The West End Game Star Wars sourcebook lays it out pretty similar to the way you do, only there is 1 TIE/in and 4 TIE/ln squadrons (the forth being a training/scout squadron?). I guess the Rebel source book has information on rebel squadrons that are also similar, but I don't have it so I can't confirm.

Ultimately I will be running four flight groups at this event. I'm happy at twenty ships... I don't feel I need to spend more money to have a complete squadron that I woulnt' be able to field in a pickup game anyway (two flight groups- 8 ships- is doable though only with the cheapest generic pilots).

Me thinks I'll have to look into this game... I have a 5 year old son who tends to like star wars perhaps a little to much.

So him watching daddy and uncle play the game would probably be rather entertaining.

Your squadron lay it is accurate, it's actually just an issue of before the Battle of Endor and after the battle of Endor. Your source book is listing the information from before the battle of Endor and what i had listed is what is after the battle of Endor. so we're both right... just different time frames is the only issue.

You know I saw this game the other day and it looked interesting, or rather I saw some of the expansion boxes for it.

Is it good then?

I think so. It's simple enough to learn and play and the miniatures are highly attractive. It has the appeal of typical miniatures games but there's no requirement to assemble and paint your miniatures. If you wish to customize them all you need are the parts (paint, tools) to do so.

Getting started is around $30-$40 and you get two TIEs and an X-Wing. It may not be much, but with a couple of booster packs things improve. I'm up to forty ships now and yeah that's a lot of money, but it allows me to single-handedly run events like this one.

Hmm, well that does certainly sound interesting.

I will have to go examine the local hobby shop, I know they carry a few copies of this and the requisite boosters.
