I guess before he left Relic Entertainment, Rob Cunningham (concept artist for Homeworld and Homeworld 2), drew this ship... a Taiidan "Warthog". To my knoweldge, it was the only specifically Taiidan ship drawn for Homeworld 2.
I was told he released it to the community, and allowed moders and artists to use the design to represent a Taiidan craft.
I decided to give it my own treatment and cleaned up the design. In my version of homeworld canon, this is the "Type 38" heavy fighter. It was designed after the Taiidan broke away from the Vaygr, and was seen as the greatest step forward in Taiidan shipbuilding in the past 100 years.
The FX-21 was conceived initially as a response to this fighter.
Original design = Rob Cunningham, Relic Entertainment.
Good job, feels wasp-ish and looks like a 'traditional' Taiidan ship. So would it be the next step in strike craft after the Defender or is it more like post-heavy corvette?

Heavy fighter, more or less occupying the same place the "Spade" would in a Hiigaran lineup.
It's one step below a corvette, being that it is a fighter armed with missiles. While the Spade is a heavier fighter with stronger hull and larger missile compliment, the Warthog (as I imagined it) would be faster and with a stronger gun.

Hm, interesting. Especially the weapon complement. You said that it would carry missiles and be one step below a Corvette; would it kinda be like the Somtaaw Acolytes, with a single-shot missile launcher and some heavier mass driver?
