Homeworld Saga Color Codes

Description

While I'm out to Honor Homeworld for the 10th Anniversary, I might as well put this up.

This is a chart showing the official color code indexes of all the ships across all three games. Special thanks to DragonBuster, Riess, Dot, Ghostwind1, and Saberdark on the Relicnews forums for helping me compile this.

Some notes:
>The Taiidan changed their colors from Homeworld 1 to Cataclysm. Maybe this was done to help their transition from faceless enemies into cartoonish villains.

>"Dorky Cheater" is what happens in Homeworld 1 if you hack your way to getting all black ships and black stripes.

>While in most cases the ship drive trails use the colors of the hull, Homeworld 1 had some exceptions, notably the Kadesh. Astute players will notice that in missions following the Gardens, Captured Kadeshi ships are colored either orange or purple. This is because the coding to make them white is limited only to the Garden missions. In the instance of trail colors, the top one is the inner trail, while the bottom is the outer trail (HW1 trails are two layers worth of geometry).

>The Pirates change color between both games. Though it should be noted that there are likely many Turanic raiders, and only the ones in the core regions use Cata colors.

>The Maanan, S'Jet, and Nabaal colors were named as such in the Cataclysm files. While it's obvious that the green are the Maanani, it's not so obvious ingame about the other colors. As Cata is dubious on canon, take it however you will.

>There is no official reason why the Elite Vaygr share very similar colors with the Sobani fleet. Concept documents once suggested that the Sobani were to aid the Vaygr, but this is hardly an official ingame reason.

UPDATE 9.24.09:

>The Progenitor colors are taken from the hull texture of the model (courtesy Ghostwind1). Apparently the colors work on teamcolor ships, so they are presented here.

>Similarly, the Progenitor trail colors are used by their smallcraft (drones, fighters) despite no alterations to their exterior paint schemes.

>The Dawg (as Riess pointed out) uses the Ambassador trail. While very similar to the progenitor trail, the Progenitors seem to have more yellow in their emissions than the drones. One can only speculate why, if indeed the Dawg and Movers are related.

>The "Target Drones" are from the first mission of Homeworld 2, where you task your interceptors to destroy them for a test. They are essentially re-colored probes with this scheme applied, and according to the game files, use the Hiigaran trail.

>The Bentusi color is actually an unknown teamcolor type from mission 10. Given that this time also has the Hiigaran badge enabled, and the same stripe as the Hiigarans, I want to say this is the teamcolor for the Bentusi vessel or Progenitors. The questionmark is, of course, because it is not confirmed.

About to finish my first playthrough of Cataclysm, got to say the colour schemes are pretty ugly compared to HW1 and 2. S'Jet and Manaan are probably the worst offenders followed by the Taiidan Imperialists (What were they thinking when they changed that one anyway? The original Taiidan Empire colour scheme was far nicer.)

I like the Taiidan Republic colours though.
