Somtaaw Torpedo Frigate

Description

When Kuun-Lan was operating in the deep east, seeking technology to use for their own space fleet, they witnessed a number of unusual combat craft that were never encountered before in the core. Among the many vessels was the Vaygr torpedo frigate, which would eventually serve as inspiration to solve the anti-capital problem the Somtaaw were facing.

The guided weapon is said to be an old weapon system nearly abandoned until Taiidan engineers examined the Kushan prototype adrift in the Sea of Lost Souls. However, it appears that few in the core considered up-scaling the guided missile for use against capital craft- perhaps citing how easily missiles were shot down. In the eastern fringe however, where ion technology is unknown, the Vaygr have successfully used fusion missiles and large torpedoes against capital craft as their primary means of heavy firepower. Somtaaw decided to embark on creating a similar design for their own use.

The so-called "Torpedo Frigate' was made possible by re-designing the missile to incorporate a larger warhead and the newest light corvette engine. The final missile design defined the word "Torpedo" as it is known in the core- a missile the size of a corvette with significant application against capital ships.

The prototype Torpedo Frigate was constructed by Faal-Corum when it participated in the sixteen day war between Taanach and the splinter government of Laamad in Taanach territory. It came as a rude surprise to the core, which had never experienced guided weapons of this size. The prototype alone was responsible for sinking five frigates, and then later went on to claim a destroyer.

"Fire the Torpedoes!"

I love the design, it really speaks to me.
